One thing I’ve never understood is the logic behind spending 5-figures on a car, yet people buy the cheapest mattress you can get. After all, we spend a third of our lives in bed, so why sacrifice?

As a firm (no pun intended) believer that the secret to happiness is a good night’s sleep, I wanted to share with you my honest review of the Simba Hybrid Luxe Mattress I bought when I moved into my new home.

Despite running a tight budget, the bedroom was one room I wasn’t prepared to make any sacrifices for quality. So without further ado, let’s delve deeper into this mattress review and look at what I love (and the one thing I don’t like) about the secret to a comfortable night’s sleep.

About The Simba Hybrid Luxe

The Simba Hybrid Luxe Mattress is an advanced mattress of high quality, yet has a familiar medium-firm feel to it. One of many box mattresses in the range, The Simba Hybrid Luxe, like it’s sibling the Simba Hybrid Pro, feature a non-turn base layer with zones for shoulder and hip support.

This non-turn box mattress is designed to be rotated but not flipped over due to the layer of memory foam on one side. It’s also one of the conditions for the ten-year warranty. The best time to rotate is at least once a month for the first three months, and once every three to six months thereafter. The Simba Hybrid Luxe Mattress also contains an extra layer of natural bamboo wool.

The Simba Hybrid Luxe has a proprietary open-cell foam layer that reacts to body curves without trapping the sleeper. It relieves pressure while staying responsive and cool. Heat regulation is pivotal in a mattress, and the Simba doesn’t disappoint.

As a sweaty, hot sleeper (combination of medication plus overweight), I find the overall temperature control great. It’s the coolest mattress I’ve slept on thanks to the moisture control. Though like most hot sleepers, I still need an extra fan or two by the bed in Summer despite the airflow of memory foam through the hypoallergenic sleep surface.

In addition, the Simba Hybrid Luxe is designed with two patented spring layers that work in concert to contour to the shape of the body and minimize motion transfer. Memory foam with edge support is provided via the high definition open-cell Simba-Pure foam layer. The Simba Hybrid Luxe is also equipped with a supportive 40MM high carbon steel spring comfort layer and a foam support base.

Cooling and Eco-Friendly

The Simba Hybrid Luxe mattress is a non-turn mattress with an integrated base layer that is zoned at the hip and shoulder areas. It is also one of the few mattresses that feature a ten-year warranty. The manufacturer recommends that you rotate it every three months for the first three months, and then every six months or so for the remainder of its lifespan.

The Simba Hybrid open-cell graphite foam is environmentally friendly and carbon neutral, reducing the use of TCPP and other toxic chemicals. It is also made from 100% recyclable materials, and the company says that the foam is CertiPUR-certified to be free of toxins. Its mattresses are produced in zero-waste UK factories, making them completely recyclable and carbon neutral. That means they are good for the environment, and you can sleep well without worrying about your health.

The Simba Hybrid Luxe is shipped in a large box. It is easy to transport, and comes with a safe cutting tool for unrolling. Upon unrolling it, the mattress will look like a burrito. To make it easy to remove, you simply unfold the plastic. Once you have rolled the fabric and unrolled it, you will find that the mattress is compressed, but it doesn’t need to be reassembled. Whether you purchase an additional mattress topper is personal preference.

Zonal support

The mattress’s castellated foam has channels cut into it to promote zoning. Zonal support is achieved by cutting channels into the foam for better support at key points. The Simba Hybrid Luxe features the patented Simba-Pure foam layer that conforms to the contours of the body without trapping it. This layer is a hypoallergenic and breathable sleep surface, offering great temperature regulation which makes it comfortable to sleep on all times of the year.

The Simba Hybrid Luxe Mattress also has two patented layers of high carbon steel springs that work together to provide optimum contouring support and minimize motion transfer. The Zonal Support System on the Simba Hybrid Luxe also features two supportive layers of high-density foam with a unique open-cell graphite layer which further supports great temperature regulation, keep the sleeper cool and comfortable.

The Simba Hybrid 2500 has a poly foam top layer that contains memory foam. This material creates a pronounced contouring effect around the body, with deeper sinkage in the midsection and hips. In turn this offers great pressure relief, especially for those who suffer from conditions such as Fibromyalgia or arthritis.

The Zonal Support system is a great option for side sleepers like myself who require minimal motion transfer, although lighter-weight side sleepers or stomach sleepers may prefer a mattress that provides more give and is softer on the firmness scale. Its top layer also smells strong at first in the first few hours after unboxing, but this does fade over time like any mattress.

Price and Sizes

The Simba Hybrid mattress comes in all your traditional sizes from single size, double size, king size and super king. It is also one of the most expensive bed in a box mattresses available on the market, but it’s definitely worth the price tag.

It’s a deep memory foam mattress, with a 20-28-cm total thickness proving its comfort and durability. The Simba Hybrid Pro as well as the Luxe are both covered by a ten-year warranty and you don’t have to worry about the need for a mattress protector, though some prefer to buy the Simba Performance Mattress Protector alongside their mattress.

The Simba Hybrid Luxe is slightly more expensive than the Simba Hybrid Pro, but it’s worth it for the extra layers of foam and aerofoil springs. In addition to these, this model comes with an anti-bacterial bamboo wool layer. It’s three centimetres thicker than the Simba Hybrid Pro, and it features four extra handles for easy storage and transportation. While the Simba Hybrid Pro is not as luxurious as the Luxe, it does have all of the benefits of a high-end mattress.

Alternatively, you can get a Simba Hybrid Mattress from John Lewis, Associated Independent Stores, Bensons for Beds, and eBay. If you can’t find the best price for your new bed, you can check out OTTY. It’s a newer brand, made in the UK, and is one to watch for. It’s a good brand but the competition is catching up quickly, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the price.

Trial period

Simba offers a 200-night trial for the Simba Hybrid Luxe Mattress. Despite the price tag, Simba’s Hybrid Luxe is well regarded by experts as a quality hybrid mattress. Its design is highly functional, while its construction uses non-toxic materials. You can return the Simba Hybrid Luxe within the trial period and receive a full refund.

While memory foam is known for being warmer than coils, Simba’s hybrid models feature a layer of Simbatex foam. The breathable sleep surface has an open cell structure and graphite particles to keep the mattress cooler. The Simba Hybrid Pro and Simba Hybrid Luxe also include additional wool layers for additional comfort and support. Both Simba mattresses have been designed with over 10 million people’s body profiles in mind and were among the first hybrid mattress brands to be sold in the UK.

What I Liked (and Didn’t Like)

The Simba Hybrid Luxe is designed for quality and comfort. It’s removable two-piece hypoallergenic cover allows for maximum comfort and a full body alignment. What’s more, it’s also a machine-washable cover so if you’re prone to accidents it’s great for regular washing. Note that It’s important to know your personal needs when buying a mattress, so read reviews carefully before buying.

The Simba Luxe Mattress offers good edge support and inner edge support. As someone who sleeps on the end of the bed almost falling out, I didn’t find the edge support quite good enough initially so I reinforced it with some foam I had from my bed frame packaging. But, as time’s gone on and I’ve migrated further into the middle of the bed (because it’s so comfortable and spacious), I haven’t noticed this to be a problem anymore!

It’s great for couples or families sharing a bed, as it can support multiple people. The firmness of the mattress is also subjective, but it’s categorized as medium-firm. If you suffer from back pain, a medium-firm mattress may be the best choice. If you are unsure about the firmness level, you can always ask your partner to help you choose a firmer mattress.

If you’re looking for a comfortable mattress and are prepared to make the investment for a restful sleep, then the Simba Hybrid Luxe Mattress might just be what you’ve been looking for. With a generous 200-day sleep trial and free delivery within 5 business days, you’ll have plenty of time to decide if this mattress is the perfect mattress for you.
