Barking Sycamores is a literary journal whose mission is to publish poetry, short fiction (1,000 words or less), creative nonfiction (8,500 words or less), hybrid genre work (8,500 words or less), and artwork by neurodivergent writers. We also seek to add positively to the public discussion about neurodivergence as a whole in the form of essays on literature and the interrelationship between neurodivergence and the creative process.
Barking Sycamores is edited and operated entirely by queer neurodivergent people of color.
The views expressed by literary and artistic works published in this journal are not necessarily those of Barking Sycamores or of its publishers.
Submissions are only accepted electronically through our Submittable page.
We support the concept of neurodiversity and reject the notion that neurological differences should be pathologized. For this reason, we ask that writers and artists please consult our full submission guidelines to understand the philosophy of our publication before sending any work to us.
Authors of works appearing in all issues of Barking Sycamores retain their copyright on those works. No part of this publication may be used or reproduced in any manner whatsoever without written permission by the author(s) except in the case of brief quotations embodied in articles and reviews giving due credit to the authors.
