Barking Sycamores is a literary journal entirely edited and operated by transgender queer neurodivergent people of color. Our mission is to publish poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, hybrid genre work, and artwork by neurodivergent writers. We also publish reviews of books by neurodivergent authors or featuring neurodivergent characters and themes.
The views expressed by literary and artistic works published in this journal are not necessarily those of Barking Sycamores or of its publishers.
Submissions are only accepted electronically through our Submittable page.
We support the concept of neurodiversity and reject the notion that neurological differences should be pathologized. For this reason, we ask that writers and artists please consult our full submission guidelines to understand the philosophy of our publication before sending any work to us.
The HTML version of this publication is available to read for free on our website. Single issues are periodically made available for individual purchase through the Autonomous Press Store, as is each annual anthology.
Authors of works appearing in all issues of Barking Sycamores retain their copyright on those works. No part of this publication may be used or reproduced in any manner whatsoever without written permission by the author(s) except in the case of brief quotations embodied in articles and reviews giving due credit to the authors.
