GOOD MORNING!, Benjamin White

Good Morning!
by Benjamin White

Waking up, brains on fire
Eyes sting, lips coated
Good Morning is a liar
Dreams lift forever floated

The jaw pops, so tight
Shoulders tense, back aches
Terrors in the night
Melting away as the world wakes

Anxious obligations flash by
Head is heavy, eyes are blind
Klonopin, no longer a high
A necessity for the daily grind

Need more sleep
Bladder hurts everyday
The water bill is not cheap
Lithium calms, but creates an eternal spray

Full sized mirror, overweight
Belly bloated, sides thick
The effects pills create
Self-loathing plays an awful trick

Fighting the mind
Energy drained
Staying optimistic is unkind
From birth meant to be pained

By all accounts, all is well
Shorter episodes, no panic
Hiding in this scarred shell
Missing being manic

Life is amusing, everything becomes routine
The pills, the appointments
Friends and family on which to lean
Feeling alienated while bowing to a maniacal queen
